On Thursday, Google announced the March feature drop for Google Workspace, unveiling several new artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements aimed at improving user experience. Many of these features have already been made available to eligible users, while others are expected to roll out over the coming days. Among the highlights is an improved “take notes for me” functionality in Google Meet, now equipped to suggest next steps for users following meetings. Additionally, Google Vids is introducing a new AI voiceover feature that will automatically apply custom voiceovers to AI-generated scenes.
New AI Capabilities in Google Workspace
In a recent blog post, the Mountain View-based technology company outlined a series of new features targeting its paid Google Workspace users. The updates will be made available to Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, Essentials, and Education accounts, along with those utilizing the Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-ons. Some features may require administrative action to activate.
A significant enhancement has been made to Google Meet. The Gemini-supported “take notes for me” function, which was introduced to the platform in August 2024, now enables the AI chatbot to compile a list of actionable next steps following a meeting. These suggestions, informed by the meeting’s discussions, will be systematically compiled into the related Google Doc summary.
The updated functionality also allows for the assignment of due dates for tasks and designating relevant meeting participants. Meeting hosts can subsequently review, modify, and track these tasks as needed.
Furthermore, the AI voiceover capability is being integrated into Google Vids’ “help me create” feature. This tool will recommend custom voice options tailored to each segment of a generated video. Users also have the flexibility to manually choose an AI voice that aligns better with their video’s content. To take advantage of this new feature, users need to access Google Vids and select the option to create a new video, where they will find AI voiceover options available.
On top of these updates, Google Chat will be introducing a “translate for me” feature powered by Gemini. This functionality will automatically recognize and translate text messages from over 120 languages with a single click, while still allowing users to access the original message when necessary. In addition, Google has announced plans to expand the number of languages supported by Gemini across various Workspace applications.
