Google Vids, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed for video creation, is set to introduce a new feature. The Mountain View-based technology firm announced last week that it will incorporate AI-generated voiceovers into its ‘Help me create’ function. This enhancement will enable the tool to automatically add voiceovers to each scene it generates, with users retaining control to select from various voice options or to disable the feature altogether. This update follows the initial launch of the platform in November 2024.
Google Vids Gets a New AI Feature
In a recent blog post, Google elaborated on the AI voiceovers functionality. Previously, the tool allowed users to create a fully editable first draft of a video using a text prompt and a document from Google Drive. The platform is driven by its Gemini AI system, though specific details regarding the model in use have not been disclosed by the company.
Utilizing the prompts and documents provided, Gemini is capable of generating scenes that include stock media, text, scripts, and background music. After these elements are created, users have the flexibility to modify the draft as they see fit. While the tool already possessed significant capabilities, the integration of automatic voiceovers marks a substantial enhancement.

The integration of AI voiceovers into Vids’ ‘Help me create’ feature allows the tool to suggest voice options tailored to the given prompts. Users can also customize this aspect by selecting an AI voice that best fits their video content. Google mentions that these AI voices come in a variety of pitches and tones.
To access the new feature, users must navigate to Google Vids and choose the option to create a new video, where they will find the AI voiceover selections available. It is important to note that the platform, along with its comprehensive array of features, is compatible with the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (on Windows only). Other browsers may not support all functionalities of the tool.
While the Google Vids interface is available in various local languages around the world, the AI features, including voiceovers, are currently restricted to English. The rollout of this new feature is ongoing for Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, Essentials, and Education accounts, as well as for users who hold an existing Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-on.
