Google Vids, the company’s innovative artificial intelligence (AI) video creation tool, is set to enhance its offerings with a new feature. The Mountain View-based tech firm announced last week that it will introduce AI-generated voiceovers as part of its ‘Help me create’ functionality. This addition will automatically generate voiceovers for each scene the tool creates, while users will retain the ability to customize these voiceovers or disable them entirely. Google Vids originally launched in November 2024.
New AI Voiceover Feature for Google Vids
In a recent blog post, Google elaborated on the capabilities of its new AI voiceovers. Previously, the tool enabled users to produce a fully editable video draft based on a text prompt and a document sourced from Google Drive. The platform is underpinned by the Gemini technology, although Google has not specified which specific AI model is in use.
Gemini creates scenes that include stock media, text, scripts, and background music, based on the provided prompt and document. Once the scenes are generated, users are free to modify the draft as they see fit. With the latest enhancement, Google is incorporating the ability to automatically add voiceovers to these generated scenes.

The integration of AI voiceovers into Google Vids represents a significant update to the ‘Help me create’ feature. In addition to suggesting voiceovers based on the prompt, users can select custom AI voices that best suit their video’s theme. Google claims that these AI voices come in various pitches and tones for enhanced versatility.
To access the new voiceover feature, users simply need to launch Google Vids and opt to create a new video. The option to include AI voiceovers will be clearly presented among the available features. Importantly, Google Vids, along with its comprehensive feature set, is compatible with the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge (available only on Windows). Other browsers may not support all functions of the platform.
While the Vids application is available in multiple languages globally, the AI functionalities, including the voiceovers, are currently offered only in English. The rollout of this new feature is underway for Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, Essentials, and Education accounts. Users with existing Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-ons will also gain access to this new capability.
