Google is discontinuing its Preferred Care extended warranty plan, transitioning to the Pixel Care Plus program. The costs associated with both plans remain closely aligned. Customers will pay $8 monthly or can opt for a two-year plan at $159 for a Pixel 9. The premium goes up for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which will cost $339 over two years or $18 per month, with additional charges for optional loss and theft coverage.
Key enhancements in the new plans include free screen and battery repairs, along with significantly reduced service fees for other accidental damages. Previously, the Preferred Care program charged $29 for a cracked screen replacement. Under the new Pixel Care Plus plan, users can replace a cracked front screen or upgrade a battery operating below 80 percent at no cost. However, coverage does not extend to internal screen damage on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Service fees for other types of accidental damage vary by model, ranging from $49 for older models like the Pixel 8a and 9a to $99 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Most fees have been reduced compared to previous plans, with costs reaching $129 for the Pixel 9 Pro and Fold models. The new loss and theft option adds $1 to $2 per month based on the model, featuring deductibles that can reach up to $149 for higher-end devices.
With these revisions, Google aligns its offerings more closely with competitors like Samsung, which eliminated screen replacement fees from its coverage plans earlier this year.
