Google has announced the introduction of a new artificial intelligence (AI) model from its Gemini 2.0 series. Named Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced, this large language model (LLM) will be accessible exclusively to paying subscribers of Gemini. The release of this advanced model follows closely on the heels of the introduction of the Gemini 2.0 Flash model to Gemini’s Android application. Notably, the Experimental Advanced model is currently only available via the web version of the AI chatbot.
Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced Model Is Rolling Out
In a recent blog post, Google shared details about the second AI model in the Gemini 2.0 array. Officially designated as Gemini-Exp-1206, users can select this model from the model switcher feature located at the top of the chatbot’s web interface. Currently, only subscribers to Gemini Advanced will have the option to choose this model.

While the announcement of the new AI model just took place, the designation Gemini-Exp-1206 first emerged last week when it claimed the top spot on the Chatbot Arena’s (previously called LMSYS) LLM Leaderboard, scoring 1374. This score notably surpasses that of OpenAI’s latest GPT-4o, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and the o1 series models.
Exclusively available on the web version of Gemini, this advanced AI model promises substantial enhancements in its ability to perform complex tasks, including coding, mathematics, reasoning, and instruction following. Google highlighted that it can now generate detailed multi-step instructions for do-it-yourself (DIY) projects, addressing a limitation observed in earlier models.
Despite the promising features, Google cautions that the 2.0 Experimental Advanced model is still in an early preview phase and may not always function optimally. Moreover, this AI model currently does not have access to live information and may not be compatible with several features of Gemini. The company did not specify which features may be affected by the new LLM.
It’s worth noting that Gemini Live is included as part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, which can be obtained through the Google One AI Premium plan, priced at Rs. 1,950 per month after a one-month free trial.
