On Monday, Google unveiled a range of new educational tools designed for students, teachers, and educational institutions during the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) edtech conference. The Mountain View-based technology company introduced Gemini in Classroom, a comprehensive suite featuring over 30 advanced AI tools tailored for educators. Additionally, they launched a specialized version of the Gemini app called Gemini for Students, which is equipped with various features aimed at enhancing student learning. The company is also extending access to Google Vids for educators and students alike.
In a blog post, Google outlined the new AI capabilities focused on education, all of which will be available at no charge to users of Google Workspace for Education. These updates build upon the Gemini functionalities introduced in Google Classroom last year.
Educators utilizing Google Workspace for Education will soon have access to an expanded toolkit, featuring over 30 innovative AI capabilities. These tools include functionalities for AI-driven lesson planning, quiz creation, presentation development, gamifying activities, brainstorming project ideas, and generating worksheets, among others.

Looking ahead, Google intends to roll out NotebookLM and Gems within Classroom in the upcoming months. NotebookLM will enable educators to create study guides and audio overviews for their students, while Gems will facilitate the development of AI experts designed to assist students requiring additional support.
Moreover, educators will gain the ability to monitor student performance through a new analytics feature. This progress tracking system will initially align with national and state learning standards for K12 education in the U.S., with plans to incorporate standards from other countries in the future. Google also aims to empower educational institutions and standards bodies to share and publish their learning standards on Classroom through the CASE Network 2.
For students, Google is launching a tailored version of the Gemini app known as Gemini for Education. This new application includes a feature called Gemini Canvas, allowing students aged 18 and older to create personalized quizzes across various subjects. Plans are in place to extend this feature to younger students in the weeks ahead. The chatbot will also offer interactive diagrams and visuals to aid in the comprehension of intricate topics.
The educational version of these AI features will provide monitoring tools and controls for both parents and educators. Google has asserted that it consulted with experts in child safety and development to formulate its content policies and emphasized that data from chat interactions will not be utilized to enhance its AI models.
