At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 on Monday, Google unveiled upcoming AI enhancements powered by its Gemini technology for Google TV. The new features aim to enrich user interaction with smart TVs and enhance overall functionality. The Mountain View, California-based company announced that Gemini will refine Google Assistant, allowing it to summarize news, navigate media, and respond to various queries relating to streaming services and device capabilities.
Google TV to Soon Get New AI Features
In a blog post, Google elaborated on the AI advancements set to launch on devices running the Google TV operating system. Utilizing Gemini models, the tech titan is enhancing the intuitiveness of Google TV, ensuring users can more easily engage with their devices. Importantly, while Gemini technology will underpin these new AI functionalities, it will not replace Google Assistant; instead, it will serve to enhance its capabilities.
Google emphasized that this integration will allow users to engage in more natural conversations with their smart TVs. A key advantage is the improved ease of searching for media content. With detailed inquiries, users will be able to effortlessly find their desired shows or movies.
Moreover, Google stated that users can pose questions to the voice assistant on a wide array of topics, including travel, health, space, and history. For example, by asking about the latest ISRO rocket launch, a user might receive a relevant YouTube video along with contextual information.
Another notable feature showcased is the news overview function. The AI assistant will be capable of summarizing the day’s major news headlines on command. Additionally, the AI can generate personalized art for use as a screensaver during idle times and manage smart home devices even when the TV is in ambient mode.
Google confirmed that these innovative AI features are expected to roll out later this year for select Google TV devices. However, details regarding the global availability of these features remain unspecified.
