On Tuesday, Google announced the rollout of the May 2025 update for its Pixel devices. This over-the-air (OTA) update applies to the new Pixel 9 series, Pixel Tablet, and several older models that run the latest Android 15 operating system. According to Google, the update addresses issues related to audio, Bluetooth functionality, and the device framework. Additionally, it delivers the May security patch, which resolves three vulnerabilities rated as “high” severity.

A community manager from Google provided details about the May 2025 update, which includes build numbers BP1A.250505.005, BP1A.250505.005.B1, and BD4A.250505.003 for global models on a support page. Users on carriers such as Taiwan+EMEA, Verizon, and Deutsche Telekom might notice slightly different identifiers for their updates.

The devices eligible for this update include the following:

  1. Google Pixel 9 Series
  2. Google Pixel 8 Series
  3. Google Pixel Tablet
  4. Google Pixel Fold
  5. Google Pixel 7 Series
  6. Google Pixel 6 Series

The changelog indicates that one of the updates resolves an audio issue that affected microphone recording quality in specific applications across all Pixel smartphones. The update also addresses Bluetooth pairing problems with certain smartwatches. Furthermore, users had reported an issue involving errors when displaying the secondary language in quick settings; this has also been rectified in the latest update.

In addition to these fixes, Google’s Pixel Security Bulletin confirms that the May update includes a security patch for three common vulnerabilities and exposure (CVE) threats categorized as “high” severity. One of the identified threats, CVE-2025-27700, was found in the oobconfig subcomponent, while others related to Bluetooth and the kernel subcomponents are cataloged as CVE-2024-56193 and CVE-2025-27701, respectively. The May 2025 update provides patches for these vulnerabilities.

Google typically deploys updates in a phased approach, meaning that the availability may differ based on the carrier, device, and region. Users will receive a notification when the update is ready for their Pixel device.
