Google has announced an update to its Gmail platform for mobile devices on both Android and iOS, introducing a series of design enhancements along with new AI capabilities.
Users with Android tablets and foldable devices will benefit from a more adaptable Gmail interface. The latest version allows for resizing of the list and conversation panes by dragging a divider, facilitating a tailored landscape view. Users can also opt for a single-pane display by moving the divider to one side. This update is currently being deployed for both Workspace and personal accounts.
In addition to these changes, Gmail on iOS is receiving a Material Design 3 update that aligns its look with the redesigned Android and web versions. This enhancement features pill-shaped buttons at the bottom and a sleeker rounded search bar at the top. This update is also being rolled out for Workspace and personal accounts. Moreover, iOS users can now create and edit birthday events in Google Calendar, similar to the existing functionality on Android.
Lastly, the Gemini image generator will soon be accessible in the Gmail app sidebar on both Android and iOS for Workspace users. This feature, similar to those available in Google’s web-based Workspace applications, allows users to generate images within Gmail, which can then be saved, copied, or seamlessly inserted into email drafts.
