As part of its March Pixel Drop, Google has rolled out an update to the Pixel Studio app, enhancing its functionality for users of compatible Pixel devices. This update introduces the long-awaited feature of generating images of people, marking a significant enhancement for the AI-driven app that debuted alongside the Google Pixel 9 series in August 2024 and remains exclusive to that lineup. Utilizing Google’s proprietary AI models, the app enables users to create images and stickers by providing text and image inputs.
New Features Introduced in Pixel Studio App
The latest features of the Pixel Studio app were outlined in a blog post from the company. Among the key updates, the inclusion of the ability to generate human images stands out. Previously, Google had restricted this feature following user reports of the Gemini model producing racially insensitive image outputs.
The functionality was re-enabled following the public release of the Imagen 3 image generation model in December 2024, signaling a gradual reintroduction of this capability across various platforms.

According to Google, users will be able to generate images of people exclusively through text prompts, with the app currently not supporting image inputs for this feature. Furthermore, the app has expanded its availability to Germany and Japan, now offering native language support after initially being limited to English in select regions.
A report from 9to5Google noted that the update upgrades Pixel Studio to version 1.5, also streamlining the sticker generation process. Users can now utilize a new floating action button (FAB) located next to the Create and image selection buttons on the app’s home screen. This Create a Sticker feature provides a straightforward method to generate stickers using either a text prompt or a reference image.
Moreover, the updated app now includes a new Light theme alongside the existing dark and system default options.
This month’s Pixel Drop not only enhances the Pixel Studio app but also extends Gemini Live’s language support to 45 languages. Additionally, a new Suggestions feature in the Pixel Screenshots app now provides users with curated recommendations for their screenshot collections, further enriching the user experience.
