The upcoming Google Pixel 10 series is anticipated to showcase significant improvements in its camera configuration, surpassing that of the existing Pixel 9 models. Reports suggest that the standard Pixel 10 will incorporate a triple rear camera system, which may include a new telephoto sensor. Recent information indicates that this telephoto camera will possess macro capabilities, aimed at enhancing users’ macro photography experiences. However, specific details regarding the sensor have not yet been disclosed.
Tele-Macro Camera Expected in Google Pixel 10 Series
According to a report from Android Headlines, the telephoto sensor on the Pixel 10 series is predicted to provide 5x optical zoom, along with the ability to engage in macro photography. Maintaining a trend from the previous Pixel 9 series, the ultrawide camera on the Pixel 10 devices will also support macro functionality.
Traditionally, telephoto cameras are designed for zoom purposes and do not excel at focusing on nearby objects, unlike ultrawide lenses with autofocus that can manage close-up shots. The new report highlights that the introduction of macro capabilities on both the telephoto and ultrawide lenses in the Pixel 10 lineup is set to enhance the macro photography experience, allowing the devices to automatically select the most suitable lens based on the distance to the subject.
This development could be particularly beneficial because telephoto lenses generally deliver superior image quality compared to their ultrawide counterparts. Should the Pixel 10 series indeed feature a tele-macro camera, users can expect sharper, more detailed images. Furthermore, since telephoto lenses enable close-up photography from a distance, they will likely minimize light obstruction, resulting in high-quality macro shots.
Notably, smartphones such as the Oppo Find N5 and OnePlus 13 already integrate tele-macro cameras, indicating a growing trend in the industry.
The anticipated Pixel 10, along with its variants—Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold—may debut globally on August 20 during Google’s annual Made by Google event. Earlier reports have suggested that the Pixel 10 series may also offer advanced gimbal-level stabilization for video capture.
