On Monday, Google unveiled the expansion of its NotebookLM Plus service to individual users. Previously, this enhanced version of the platform, which includes elevated usage limits and enhanced security features, was exclusively available for enterprise and educational accounts. Now, however, users can access these new offerings through the Google One AI Premium subscription, allowing them to unlock additional capabilities via the NotebookLM website. The platform particularly drew attention following the introduction of the Audio Overviews feature, enabling users to transform various sources into captivating podcast-like discussions.
Google’s NotebookLM Plus Now Available to Individual Users
In a recent blog post, Google detailed its decision to extend the NotebookLM Plus platform to all users enrolled in the Google One AI Premium plan worldwide. This subscription encompasses not only NotebookLM Plus but also grants access to other tools such as Gemini Advanced, integration of Gemini in Gmail and Docs, along with 2TB of storage on Google Drive.
Initially launched in late 2023, NotebookLM was made available in India in June 2024. This AI-driven platform specializes in summarizing lengthy documents, articles, and more, enabling users to inquire about the information. Its popularity surged notably after the rollout of the Audio Overviews feature, which allows for engaging audio content creation.
The basic version of NotebookLM permits users to create up to 100 notebooks, each containing 50 sources, alongside 50 chat queries per day and three daily audio generations. In December 2024, Google released a Plus version exclusively for enterprises that significantly raised the usage limits and introduced additional privacy and security measures.
Now, these enhancements are accessible to those who subscribe to the Google One AI Premium plan, which costs Rs. 1,950 per month in India. Additionally, a discounted plan for students is being launched in the US. Eligible students aged 18 and older can join the program for $9.99 (approximately Rs. 870) a month for a full year.
During the rollout in India, Google indicated that NotebookLM was powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro AI model. However, it remains uncertain if the same model continues to support the platform. Furthermore, Google is working on a mobile application for the AI tool, though a release date has yet to be announced.
