On Tuesday, Google announced an update to its NotebookLM platform, introducing a new feature aimed at simplifying the process of sharing notebooks publicly. This artificial intelligence-based note summarization tool will now include a Share button, enabling users to distribute links to their notebooks to a wider audience. This functionality resembles the sharing capabilities seen in Google Docs and Slides, although users will not have the ability to edit notebooks through these shared links. They can still engage with the content and communicate with the AI for further insights.
NotebookLM’s Notebook Sharing Is Not Available on the App
According to a blog post from Google, the new sharing feature is being rolled out to NotebookLM users. Previously, users had to invite others by entering their email addresses, which required recipients to have a Gmail account. This sharing method allowed for collaborative editing but became cumbersome when users wished to share notes with larger groups.
The introduction of the public sharing feature addresses this limitation. Users can now find the Share button located at the upper right corner of the NotebookLM interface, adjacent to the Settings button. This addition mirrors features available in other web applications developed by Google.

Upon clicking the Share button, users are presented with a pop-up box that includes a new “Notebook Access” option. By default, this setting is marked as “Restricted”, but users can switch it to “Anyone with a link” to broaden access. After modifying the access settings, a “Copy link” button appears, enabling users to easily copy the link for sharing.
This link can be disseminated through email, social media channels, or messaging applications, providing a convenient way for individuals, such as students, educators, professionals, and researchers, to share their notebooks.
Those who access the shared notebooks will find features such as AI-generated podcasts, briefing documents, and a frequently asked questions section, along with the ability to interact with a chatbot for more information about the notes. It is important to note that the public sharing feature is not currently available on the NotebookLM mobile applications for Android and iOS.
