On Tuesday, Google announced a series of enhancements for Google Meet. The first new feature, aimed specifically at Google Workspace enterprise and business users, will enhance the existing note-taking functionality within Gemini. Attendees will now have access to a checklist displaying “next steps” generated by AI, tailored to the discussions held during the meeting. This will assist teams in organizing follow-up actions.
Google Meet Introduces New Features
In a blog post, the tech giant based in Mountain View elaborated on the “next steps” functionality. This feature builds on the “take notes for me” option first launched in August 2024. Utilizing artificial intelligence, this option transcribes conversations via voice-to-text technology, creating formatted summaries that are automatically saved in Google Docs and shared with all meeting participants.

The update to the Gemini feature will now allow it to produce a list of actionable next steps based on meeting dialogues. Furthermore, the AI will assign due dates and designate suitable participants for each task, with this information appearing at the bottom of the Google Doc summary.
Google emphasized that users will have the ability to review and modify these tasks and follow-ups, including removing items or adjusting due dates and assignees. The aim is to enhance alignment among participants regarding post-meeting actions.
This feature will be available to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise subscribers, along with anyone who has previously acquired the Gemini Enterprise or “AI Meetings & Messaging” add-ons.

Additionally, Google is introducing another feature that updates both live and translated captions. Users will now be able to scroll back to view captions from the last 30 minutes of discussions, rather than only in real-time.
The company stated that this upgrade will facilitate quicker reviews of essential parts of meetings, especially for participants who may have needed to step away briefly or found it challenging to read the captions in real-time. This feature will be accessible to all Google Workspace users and those with personal Google accounts.
