Google Meet is set to introduce a range of new features, according to an announcement made by the company on Tuesday. The first feature, designed specifically for Google Workspace enterprise and business accounts, enhances the existing note-taking functionality within its AI tool, Gemini. This update will enable users to receive a checklist of suggested “next steps” derived from meeting discussions, aiding teams in establishing follow-up tasks.
Google Meet Is Getting New Features
In a blog post, the company from Mountain View elaborated on the new “next steps” feature. Initially launched in August 2024 as part of the “take notes for me” capability, this AI-driven addition utilizes voice-to-text technology to transcribe meeting conversations, summarizing them into organized paragraphs. The summaries are then placed into a Google Doc and shared with all attendees.

The Gemini feature is now receiving an upgrade, which includes the generation of a list of actionable next steps based on the meeting discussions. Furthermore, the AI will suggest due dates and assign tasks to the most suitable participants, with this information being incorporated at the bottom of the summary in the same Google Doc.
Users will have the flexibility to review and adjust these tasks as necessary, allowing them to remove items, change deadlines, or reassign responsibilities. The update underscores the AI feature’s potential to ensure all attendees have a clear understanding of post-meeting actions.
This new capability is being rolled out to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise subscribers, and it is also accessible to those who have previously acquired the Gemini Enterprise or “AI Meetings & Messaging” add-ons.

In addition, Google is launching another feature for Google Meet. This enhancement to the live captions and translated captions functionality allows users to scroll through captions that cover the last 30 minutes of discussions. Previously, users could only view captions in real-time.
The company stated that this update will facilitate quicker reviews of meeting segments, especially for those who had to step away momentarily or were unable to read captions promptly. This new feature will be available to all Google Workspace users, alongside individuals with personal Google accounts.
