Reports indicate that this upcoming feature aims to merge the capabilities of Google Lens with the newly introduced AI Mode in Search. Tentatively named “Live for AI Mode,” this functionality is expected to allow artificial intelligence to examine the real-time camera feed and respond to inquiries accordingly.
Google Lens to Acquire Gemini Live-Inspired Features
A recent report by 9to5Google highlights that the tech giant based in Mountain View is working towards integrating features similar to those found in Gemini Live into Google Lens. Evidence of this new AI capability was discovered in the latest beta release of the Google app (version 16.17), revealing the feature’s name and intended functionalities through various lines of code.
One of the lines of code includes a disclaimer stating that “Live for AI Mode is experimental and can make mistakes,” confirming the feature’s experimental nature. Another line references Google Lens, suggesting that this capability is being developed directly within the app.
The code indicates that Live for AI Mode will utilize the device’s camera to analyze live video feeds and provide responses to user questions. This advancement means that users could direct their camera towards a plant and inquire about its name, receiving immediate feedback without the need to take or upload a photo. Given that AI Mode is designed to handle intricate queries, it may also tackle multi-step questions effectively.
Another aspect of the code suggests that users will have the option to share their screen with the AI for query responses. However, it appears that the current iteration does not support follow-up questions, allowing users to pose just one query at a time.
