Google has officially unveiled the stable version of its Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model, making it available to all users. The announcement was made on Thursday, marking the transition from the experimental preview of Gemini 2.0 Flash that debuted in December 2024. Users can now access the new AI model through both the web application and mobile platforms.
Gemini 2.0 Flash Accessible for Everyone
In a blog post, Google revealed that the Gemini 2.0 Flash model is now integrated into the Gemini app, which was previously limited to the web interface. While subscribers to Gemini Advanced will receive this latest version of the model, free users will also have access, although it remains unclear if there will be any limitations on the free tier.
The tech company mentioned that Gemini Advanced subscribers will benefit from a comprehensive one million token context window, providing enough capacity to handle the processing of 1,500 pages of uploaded files. Additionally, paid users will gain access to enhanced features such as Deep Research, Gems, and more functionalities.
Gemini 2.0 Flash boasts robust multimodal capabilities, which include image generation paired with text and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) in multiple languages. The model also integrates agentic functions that allow it to utilize tools like Google Search, as well as code execution and third-party functions, once these are specified by the user through the API.
On the performance front, Google has shared benchmark results from internal evaluations, indicating that the AI model surpasses its predecessor, Gemini 1.5 Pro, across several tests, including the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), Natural2Code, MATH, and Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A (GPQA) benchmarks.
Furthermore, the image generation capabilities in Gemini now leverage the advanced Imagen 3 AI model. The earlier versions, Gemini 1.5 Flash for free users and 1.5 Pro for Advanced users, will continue to be accessible for a few weeks, providing users with sufficient time to complete their existing projects before transitioning to the new model.
