Google has announced the launch of the stable version of its Gemini 2.0 Flash artificial intelligence model, making it available to all users. The release was made public on Thursday and replaces the experimental version of 2.0 Flash that was initially introduced in December 2024. Users can access the upgraded AI in both the web client and mobile applications.
Gemini 2.0 Flash Accessible for Everyone
In a recent blog post, the tech giant based in Mountain View detailed that the Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model is now integrated within the Gemini app. Previously, this model was exclusive to the web version. While users with Gemini Advanced subscriptions will have access to the new model, it will also be available to free users. However, it remains unclear whether free users will face any limitations on usage.
For Gemini Advanced users, Google has introduced a one million token context window, allowing for the processing of up to 1,500 pages of file uploads. Additionally, paid subscribers will have access to premium features such as Deep Research, Gems, and various other enhancements.
The capabilities of Gemini 2.0 Flash extend to multimodal outputs, including image generation paired with text and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) in multiple languages. The AI model also possesses agentic features, allowing it to utilize tools such as Google Search, code execution tools, and third-party functions when specified by users through the API.
In terms of performance, Google’s internal testing benchmarks indicate that the AI model surpasses its predecessor, Gemini 1.5 Pro, on several important measures, including Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), Natural2Code, MATH, and Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A (GPQA) benchmarks.
Importantly, the image generation function within Gemini now utilizes the latest version of the Imagen 3 AI model. Both Gemini 1.5 Flash for free users and 1.5 Pro for Advanced users will remain available for a few more weeks, providing users with ample time to conclude existing tasks and transition to the new AI model.
