Google has introduced a new feature allowing users to virtually “try on” shoes using artificial intelligence from the comfort of their homes. When browsing footwear on Google Shopping, consumers can simply click the “try it on” button to see how various styles, such as heels and sneakers, may appear on them.
Interestingly, users will not need to provide photos of their feet for the feature to work. An example from Google shows how a user can upload a full-length image of themselves, and the AI adapts the footwear they are wearing into various styles, including a pair of stylish black open-toe heels.
In a previous demonstration of Google’s Doppl app, which similarly uses AI to create videos of users adorned in new clothing, the company indicated it can generate feet automatically.
Google initially began testing its AI clothing try-on feature with items like shirts and dresses in May, followed by a full launch for US users in July. The company is also expanding its AI try-on capabilities for shoes and additional apparel to Australia, Canada, and Japan in the near future.
