Google Home is reportedly enhancing its platform with a series of new features aimed at improving user customization and automation for compatible smart home devices. According to recent reports, the company is developing an artificial intelligence (AI) feature known as Insights, which will offer personalized suggestions to users based on their interactions with the app and their devices. Additionally, numerous tools are being integrated into the routines and automation functionalities.
Google Home Is Set to Introduce New Features
Android Authority reports that Google is focused on enhancing the usability of the Google Home app by incorporating new tools. These features were discovered in the Google Home beta version 3.29 during an Android package teardown, though they are not yet accessible to beta testers.
The standout feature under development is the AI-driven Insights tool, which will utilize a floating action button (FAB) to suggest potential actions based on users’ app activities and their interactions with smart home devices. If this feature is finalized, it would mark the introduction of the first AI capabilities within the app, leveraging both in-app data and device sensor information to generate tips and feedback.

In addition to the Insights feature, multiple new tools and an updated interface for the routines and automation section have been identified. The redesigned user interface is expected to align with Android’s Material 3 design language and will provide users with new cards that include suggestions.
Beyond aesthetic modifications, a new Conditions section is being introduced to the Starters and Actions options within the routines menu. Starters permit users to establish start times for routines, while Actions outline the tasks expected from smart home devices at those designated times. The Conditions feature will allow users to define particular scenarios to activate a routine.
The Conditions tool will reportedly enable users to set time ranges for actions and feature an innovative Presence option. This advanced tool will activate routines solely when sensors in smart home devices detect human presence in the home. Presence functionality will be accessible under both Conditions and Starters.
Additionally, a new toggle button will be introduced to mark routines as Active or Inactive, allowing users to temporarily disable them. Google is also exploring a vacation mode that would enable users to establish routines and automations for extended periods when the home is unoccupied.
It is important to note that all these features are currently in development, and their future availability has yet to be confirmed.
