Google is reportedly developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature for its Gboard app. This feature, called SmartEdit, aims to enhance the existing voice typing capabilities by allowing users to perform more complex text edits. Currently, Gboard allows users to edit or delete text through voice commands, but SmartEdit is expected to offer additional editing options. Evidence of this feature has been discovered in the latest Android beta version of Gboard.
Gboard Might Soon Get a New AI Feature
The company is actively integrating AI into its various products. According to a report by Android Authority, Gboard is set to be the next application to receive an AI enhancement. The findings emerged from a review of the Gboard beta version 15.6.2. However, since the feature is still in development, it is currently unavailable to beta testers.
In this beta version, references to SmartEdit suggest it may serve as the internal name for the forthcoming AI feature. Google is reportedly working on improvements to voice typing that will enable users to make intricate inline edits to their sentences. The report included screenshots demonstrating the new functionalities that voice typing may soon support.

The reported images indicate that, while using voice typing, users will be able to instruct the AI to rewrite sentences for brevity, insert words, replace or remove specific words, capitalize letters, and correct spelling errors. This is a significant upgrade from the current functionality, which only allows users to replace or delete whole sentences or segments.
Although the report did not specify a release date, there is speculation that SmartEdit may debut alongside the upcoming Google Pixel 10 series. It remains unclear whether this feature will be exclusive to Pixel devices or made available to all Android users. If it is limited to Pixel, it could be powered by the new Gemini Nano system.
Additional reports suggest that the Pixel 10 lineup may feature a range of color options. The standard Pixel 10 is expected to come in Frost, Indigo, Lemongrass, and Obsidian, while the Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL are anticipated in Jade, Moonstone, Obsidian, and Porcelain. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold may also be available in Jade and Moonstone variants.
