Google Docs has introduced a new feature that allows users to create audio versions of their documents using artificial intelligence. In a recent update, the tech giant announced the enhanced capabilities of its Gemini AI, which includes customizable audio output with a variety of voices and adjustable playback speeds.
This feature is accessible not just to document authors. Readers can also listen to AI-generated audio from shared documents by navigating to the Tool dropdown menu and selecting Audio > Listen to this tab. Additionally, document creators have the option to embed a customizable audio button within the document itself, found under Insert > Audio, allowing readers a straightforward way to listen.
Earlier in April, Google had expressed intentions to enable users to convert their documents into AI podcasts; however, this new feature offers more immediate benefits for those looking to simply listen to their written content. Currently, audio generation is limited to documents in English and is available exclusively on desktop platforms.
The audio feature in Google Docs is being rolled out to Workspace users who subscribe to business, enterprise, or educational plans, along with individuals holding AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions.
