During the I/O Connect event on Wednesday, Google unveiled the Google Play X Unity Game Developer Training programme. This initiative, which is free of charge and supported by the Game Developer Association of India (GDAI), will offer online training to participants. The tech company has teamed up with Unity to provide this opportunity. The programme will initially kick off with 500 developers in collaboration with the governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, Google announced the second edition of the Gen AI Exchange Hackathon in India, building on the positive reception of its previous Gen AI Exchange Program.

Collaboration Between Google and Unity for Developer Training

At the Google I/O Connect in Bengaluru, Google announced its partnership with Unity, a leading platform known for creating popular games such as Free Fire and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. This collaboration led to the introduction of the Google Play X Unity Game Developer Training, aimed at both aspiring and professional game developers in India.

The programme, backed by the GDAI, encompasses over 30 hours of online training divided into three distinct learning tracks: Game Developer, Artist, and Programmer. Its goal is to equip participants with essential industry skills while enabling them to obtain Unity certifications.

To commence the initiative, Google is partnering with the governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to support 500 developers. The tech giant also revealed its intention to broaden the programme’s reach across India. Previously, the Google Play X Unity Game Developer Training has reportedly achieved success in Indonesia, where it supported 1,500 developers over the past three years.

Expansion of Gen AI Upskilling Programs

Moreover, Google showcased the progress of Google Cloud’s Gen AI Exchange Programme, which was introduced in May. This initiative, aimed at enhancing the skills of Indian developers in generative AI, has reportedly garnered over 270,000 registrations since its launch. Google highlighted that it has impacted 5.3 million individuals across various platforms and that 30,000 courses have been completed within just three months.

In addition to these initiatives, Google announced the return of the Gen AI Exchange Hackathon, following the success of its prior program. This event will provide developers with an opportunity to leverage their AI skills to tackle real-world challenges, referred to as ‘Million Dollar Problem Statements’ proposed by leading industry figures.
