MiHoYo has announced that Genshin Impact, the popular free-to-play action role-playing game, will no longer be available on the PlayStation 4. The developer stated that ongoing support and updates for the game on the previous generation PlayStation console will cease in upcoming versions. This decision is attributed to hardware limitations as well as the size of the application required for the platform. Players will be able to access Genshin Impact on PlayStation 5 without interruption, according to the developer.

Genshin Impact to Exit PS4

In a blog post released Wednesday, MiHoYo stated, “Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size, we will be discontinuing support and updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 in future versions. Genshin Impact on PS5 will continue to operate normally and is not affected by the removal and update discontinuation on PS4. Traveler will still be able to enjoy the latest content updates on PS5 and other supported platforms.”

The transition off PS4 will occur in three phases, which include the removal of the game, delisting in-game purchases, and the termination of update support.

Starting September 10, 2025, Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store for PS4 users. Players who have downloaded the game previously will still be able to redownload it, but new users will not have access.

In-game purchases will be unavailable starting February 25, 2026, affecting both the PlayStation Store and the in-game store. The final cutoff for update support will take place on April 8, 2026, at which point PS4 players will be unable to log into the game, and installations will no longer receive updates.

Users who acquire in-game items from the PlayStation Store but have not yet claimed them can still do so by logging into the game on their PS4 before the discontinuation of updates. After updates cease, players will have the option to claim their purchases by logging into the PS5 version of the game.

MiHoYo advised PS4 players to consider transitioning to a PS5 or other supported platforms to ensure continued gameplay. All progress made on PS4 will transfer seamlessly to new platforms.

Increased Specifications for Genshin Impact

Additionally, MiHoYo revealed that starting with the “Song of the Welkin Moon” update, the minimum and recommended device specifications for Genshin Impact across all supported platforms will be increased. This change aims to “support future version updates” and enhance game performance.

For Android devices, the game will now require Android 10.0 or higher, with minimum system on a chip (SoC) specifications raised to Snapdragon 660 (Adreno 610) or Helio G88 (Mali-G52) and above. On Apple devices, Genshin Impact will be compatible with iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X, iPad mini (5th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), and iPad (8th generation) or newer, with recommendations for devices like the iPhone 12 series or iPad (9th generation) and above. The new minimum requirement for iOS is 13.0 or later.

The minimum specifications for the operating system, processor, and graphics processing unit (GPU) on PC will also be raised.

MiHoYo cautioned that devices falling below the new minimum specifications may still run the game but may encounter issues such as frame rate drops, instability, or crashes during gameplay.
