Google has announced an enhancement to its Gemini feature within Gmail, now incorporating functionality from Google Calendar. The tech giant revealed on Wednesday that eligible users will be able to utilize Gemini to pose Calendar-related inquiries via Gmail. This new capability is currently limited to Google Workspace users equipped with one of the Gemini add-ons and is only available on the web platform.
Gemini in Gmail Integrates with Google Calendar
In a blog post, Google elaborated on this new feature. Gmail already offers various integrations with other Google applications, including Calendar, which allows users to schedule appointments, manage tasks for future dates, and check the schedules of their colleagues.
The arrival of Gemini integration expands this functionality through the side panel of Gmail. Users can interact with the ‘Ask Gemini’ icon located in the top right corner of the web interface to ask a range of questions that utilize Calendar features.

With this integration, users can inquire about their upcoming calendar events or request Gemini to create both one-time and recurring events. For example, the blog post illustrated that users can simply ask, “Create a [30 min] calendar event for my weekly [yoga class] every [Monday and Wednesday] at [9 AM],” and the AI will set it up instantly.
Despite these enhancements, there are certain limitations to the capabilities of Gemini at this stage. The AI cannot add or remove guests from calendar events, create events through information extracted from emails, retrieve attachments linked to calendar entries, or manage meeting rooms. Additionally, it cannot perform more complicated tasks such as determining optimal meeting times with coworkers.
The integration of Google Calendar within Gemini in Gmail is accessible to Workspace users who have Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or the Google One AI Premium add-ons.
