Samsung is gearing up to release its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which may feature a significant upgrade in RAM capabilities. Reports indicate that the device could incorporate the advanced 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X RAM, announced by Samsung’s semiconductor division in April 2024. This new RAM technology is expected to enhance the phone’s performance and power efficiency by 25 percent, aligning with improvements across the Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge models expected to launch simultaneously.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Could Be More Power Efficient
A report from SamMobile, citing a now-deleted post from tipster @UniverseIce, suggests that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will utilize the LPDDR5X RAM with a 10.7Gbps data transfer rate. This cutting-edge DRAM was introduced by Samsung in April 2024 and is notable for being produced using a 12nm manufacturing process, making it the smallest chip size in the current LPDDR lineup.
In the official announcement, Samsung highlighted that the new 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM would boost performance by over 25 percent and increase capacity by more than 30 percent compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the company stated that it would enhance power efficiency by 25 percent.
While SamMobile suggests that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will be the first Samsung smartphone to feature this advanced chipset, a conflicting report from GSMArena claims that the same RAM was also included in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The lack of official confirmation from Samsung regarding the RAM specifications makes it challenging to ascertain which report is accurate.
Nevertheless, Samsung’s announcement mentioned, “Mass production of the 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X is scheduled to begin by the second half of the year, following verification with mobile application processor (AP) and mobile device providers.”
If this production timeline holds, it implies that the new RAM may not be integrated into devices until late 2024. By that time, the Galaxy S25 Ultra would likely be well into its production cycle, suggesting that it may not be compatible with the new RAM technology. However, these assertions remain speculative, and only official confirmation from Samsung will clarify the situation.
