Prime Video has unveiled an extensive teaser for the highly anticipated second season of Fallout, which has garnered acclaim as one of the most successful television adaptations of a video game franchise. In his review for Ars Technica’s 2024 year-end roundup, senior editor Samuel Axon praised the inaugural season for its “specific cocktail of tongue-in-cheek humor, sci-fi campiness, strong themes, great characters, and visceral violence,” all of which blended to create a standout series. The teaser for the upcoming season promises to deliver a continuation of this formula, featuring a significant new character lifted from the Fallout: New Vegas game, while also offering a glimpse of a fan-favorite creature—the Deathclaw.

(Minor spoilers for Season 1 follow.)

For those unfamiliar, Fallout takes place 200 years after a devastating nuclear conflict between the United States and China in 2077. This alternate reality envisions a retrofuturistic society that emerged after World War II, with some fortunate survivors finding refuge in underground vaults while others scavenge for survival on a highly radioactive surface.

The first season introduced viewers to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), a young woman whose vault is invaded by surface dwellers. The attack results in the death of many residents and the kidnapping of her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), prompting Lucy to embark on a dangerous mission to rescue him. Her journey through the harsh realities of the surface world leads her to forge an alliance (and romantic bond) with Maximus (Aaron Moten), a squire pretending to be a knight from the Brotherhood of Steel. Additionally, she encounters a bounty hunter known as the Ghoul (Walton Goggins), a former actor named Cooper Howard who, after surviving the original blast, has been transformed by radiation into a ghoul.

The first season concluded with Lucy opting to accompany the Ghoul and the intrepid dog CX404, now affectionately known as Dogmeat, as they pursue the leaders of Vault-Tec, who were revealed to have orchestrated the nuclear catastrophe. According to the official synopsis for season two, “The new season will pick up in the aftermath of season one’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.” Returning cast members include Purnell, Goggins, MacLachlan, and Moten, alongside Moises Arias as Lucy’s younger brother, Norm, and Frances Turner as Barb Howard, Cooper’s wife and a senior Vault-Tec executive.

Joining the cast this season is Justin Theroux, who will portray Mr. Robert House, the founder and CEO of RobCo Industries. Known in the games for his sharp intellect and manipulative prowess, House played a pivotal role in the catastrophic events leading to the nuclear apocalypse while ensuring his own survival along with that of Las Vegas. The teaser hints at House being a formidable antagonist, as he declares, “I am the very best at what I do. And what I do is I know everything.”

The second season of Fallout is set to premiere on December 17, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video.
