The next-generation update for Fallout 4 has been released for players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. This update introduces native applications for these current-gen consoles, enhancing framerates and including various improvements and fixes. Bethesda previously announced that this update would be free for all players who own the game on current-generation consoles. However, players who accessed the PS4 version through PlayStation Plus will need to wait for access to the PS5 version.

This update not only provides native app support for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X but also features Performance and Quality mode settings, enabling 60 fps gameplay along with higher resolutions. Furthermore, enhancements to the game’s stability and numerous bug fixes are included.

In addition to the updates for current-gen console owners, players on PS4 and Xbox One will also receive a free update focused on stability improvements, login functionality, and quest fixes, according to a post from Bethesda that outlined the changes.

PC users will also benefit from a complimentary update for Fallout 4. This version will feature widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, alongside fixes to the Creation Kit and updates to various quests. Stability, mods, and bug fixes will also be applied across platforms such as Steam and the Microsoft Store. Although the update is not yet live on the GOG storefront, Bethesda has indicated it will be available soon, and Fallout 4 will also be released on the Epic Games Store with Steam Deck verification.

Additionally, the update will introduce new content, including quests, weapons, armor, skins, and more. A comprehensive list of these additions can be found in the update’s patch notes.

While the update is accessible to players on current-gen consoles, there is an exception for those who obtained the PS4 version through PS Plus. These players will not yet have access to the next-gen free update, as Bethesda confirmed in a post on X. They will need to wait for the update, which will be included as part of the PS Plus Extra Game Catalog.

“We’ve seen some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members,” Bethesda acknowledged. “The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. Your patience is appreciated while the teams work on this.”

The release of the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video earlier this month has led to a surge of interest in Fallout games, drawing both new and returning players. Fallout 4 has notably become one of the most-played games on Steam, ranking seventh with 72,975 concurrent players at the time of writing. Earlier in the week, Bethesda reported that Fallout titles had seen an influx of nearly 5 million players in a single day upon the show’s launch.
