The highly anticipated action-adventure game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, developed by Ninja Theory, may soon be making its way to the PlayStation 5. This revelation comes amidst a wave of announcements regarding other Microsoft first-party titles, including Forza Horizon 5, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Age of Mythology: Retold, all of which are expected to be available on PS5 by 2025. Over the past year, Microsoft has begun introducing several of its exclusive titles to competing platforms, with plans for more releases in the near future.

Potential PS5 Announcement Imminent

The update on Hellblade 2 was shared by Jez Corden, the executive editor of Windows Central, known for his reliable insights into Xbox-related developments. He indicated that the announcement regarding the game’s PS5 availability could take place during the upcoming PlayStation State of Play event, set for this week.

Sony confirmed on Tuesday that the State of Play presentation will occur on February 12, lasting over 40 minutes and highlighting various updates and announcements for upcoming PS5 titles.

On social media platform X, Corden suggested that Hellblade 2 could be included in the showcase. In response to a user questioning the possibility of the game launching on PS5, Corden remarked, “Not if, ‘when!’ and when is pretty soon from what I’ve been hearing.”

While a specific release timeline has not been disclosed, the potential announcement during the State of Play could indicate a quicker arrival of the game to the console, should it proceed as anticipated.

Microsoft’s Shift in Strategy

Since Microsoft revealed its intentions to introduce certain exclusive titles to the PS5 and Nintendo Switch, the company has revamped its approach to game launches, committing to a broader distribution of its offerings across different platforms.

In January, Microsoft announced the upcoming release of Forza Horizon 5, the acclaimed racing game developed by Playground Games, set to launch on PS5 in Spring 2025. Shortly thereafter, Xbox confirmed that Age of Mythology: Retold would be available on PS5 in March, followed by Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition later in the Spring.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, emphasized the strategic transition in a January interview, stating that no title in the company’s portfolio is off-limits for potential release on rival gaming platforms. He expressed that this approach not only helps the company improve its business model but also allows for significant investment in high-quality game development, citing what was showcased during the Xbox Developer Direct event.

Moreover, Spencer hinted at the possibility of Bethesda’s Starfield, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, eventually reaching PS5, indicating a willingness to expand access to any game that could garner players and commercial success.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is scheduled to release on May 21, 2024, for Xbox Series S/X and PC, and it will also be available on Game Pass. The first installment, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, originally launched for PC and PS4 in 2017 before later being made accessible on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Following the acquisition of Ninja Theory by Microsoft in 2018, Hellblade 2 was positioned as an exclusive for PC and Xbox Series S/X.
