Sony has revealed plans for a State of Play presentation slated for June 4, showcasing upcoming titles for the PS5. The event will feature updates from various third-party developers and is expected to include information on select first-party PlayStation games. Initially, the company reportedly weighed the option of either a PlayStation Showcase or a State of Play this summer, ultimately favoring the shorter format.

Details on the Upcoming State of Play

The State of Play broadcast is set to last over 40 minutes, according to an announcement on the PlayStation Blog. While specific titles were not disclosed, Sony promised that the event would unveil news and updates on “must-play games” on the PS5. “The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe,” the company stated.

This event will be streamed live in English on June 4 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 11 PM CEST (or June 6 at 2:30 AM IST) via PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Viewers can enjoy the full presentation through the embedded livestream available below at the start of the event:

The announcement of the State of Play implies that Sony may forgo a full-length PlayStation Showcase once again this year. Prior reports indicated that the company had been contemplating between a traditional Showcase and a more concise State of Play. Gaming industry insider Jeff Grubb noted in February that Sony seemed to be internally “debating” which direction to take.

In previous discussions, Grubb suggested that a PlayStation event was anticipated for June, leaning toward a State of Play presentation rather than a full Showcase. State of Play events are typically shorter broadcasts that highlight third-party announcements and some updates on first-party titles, occurring three to four times annually. In contrast, a full-length Showcase focuses on comprehensive updates and reveals for Sony’s first-party titles, generally held once a year.

The last PlayStation Showcase took place in 2023, with the company notably skipping the event in 2024. With the confirmation of the upcoming State of Play, it seems likely that a Showcase will not happen this year, although the possibility remains for one in 2025.

Anticipated Highlights of State of Play

Insomniac Games has not provided any recent information on Wolverine, which was first revealed in 2021. Similarly, Santa Monica Studio, known for the God of War series, has yet to disclose details about its next title, rumored to be a spinoff set in the classic Greek mythology of the franchise. Both studios could potentially feature in the upcoming State of Play presentation.

The event may also offer updates on already-announced games, including Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Saros, Phantom Blade Zero, Marathon, and others.
