The European Commission announced on Monday that it will investigate whether Apple’s iPad operating system adheres to the European Union’s new regulations designed to curb the influence of major tech companies.

This decision follows Apple’s recent submission of a compliance report regarding its iPad OS, which the Commission identified in April as a crucial platform for businesses seeking to connect with consumers.

“The Commission will now carefully assess whether the measures adopted for iPad OS are effective in complying with the DMA obligations,” stated the EU antitrust authority.

The Commission also indicated that its evaluation will incorporate feedback from interested parties.

Apple has yet to respond to requests for comment.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA), implemented earlier this year, mandates that Apple permit iPad users to select their preferred default web browser, allows for alternative app stores on its platform, and ensures compatibility with various accessories such as headphones and smart pens.

Companies found to be in violation of the DMA could face fines amounting to 10 percent of their global annual revenue.
