This week, FromSoftware announced that its highly acclaimed action-RPG, Elden Ring, has reached a significant milestone of 25 million copies sold worldwide. The game, which took the gaming community by storm upon its release in 2022, achieved this landmark ahead of the upcoming release of its first major expansion, titled Shadow of the Erdtree, slated for launch later this month. Elden Ring is clearly FromSoftware’s best-selling title, surpassing popular previous games such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Dark Souls III, both of which sold 10 million copies.
Elden Ring Sales Achievement
The announcement was made via a post on X, where FromSoftware expressed gratitude to the players. The impressive sales figure likely encompasses both physical copies and digital downloads across various gaming platforms. “We have come a long way together. We are ever thankful for your passion and support,” the official Elden Ring account shared following the sales confirmation.

Earlier in February, publisher Bandai Namco reported that Elden Ring had sold 23 million copies since its debut in February 2022. The title’s rapid ascent beyond the 25-million mark appears driven by heightened anticipation for the expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.
The base game had previously crossed the 20-million sales threshold as of February 2023, as confirmed by Bandai Namco. At that time, the publisher expressed heartfelt thanks to all players and committed to continuing to develop new content for the world of Elden Ring.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Release
First revealed last year, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is scheduled to launch on June 21 across various platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The expansion will be available separately but will also be offered in a bundle that includes the base game.
The upcoming expansion centers around Miquella, the brother of notorious Elden Ring foe Malenia, and promises to introduce players to a new region called the Realm of Shadow. A new primary antagonist, Messmer the Impaler, will also feature in this expansion. According to FromSoftware, Shadow of the Erdtree is their most extensive expansion to date, bringing forth new characters, story elements, and an expanded map.
Elden Ring was released on February 25, 2022, and went on to win the coveted Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2022.
