Electronic Arts has announced significant layoffs, impacting hundreds of employees and leading to the cancellation of a Titanfall project developed by its Respawn Entertainment division.

Reports indicate that between 300 and 400 jobs have been cut, with approximately 100 of those positions being at Respawn. This information comes from a source familiar with the internal changes.

“In order to concentrate on our long-term strategic objectives, we have implemented specific organizational changes to better align teams and manage resources aimed at fostering future growth,” stated Justin Higgs, a spokesperson for the Redwood City, California-based company.

The project that has been shelved, referred to as R7, was an extraction shooter set within the Titanfall universe, but it was still in the early stages of development and not yet ready for release.

In a social media update, Respawn acknowledged the decision to halt two early-stage incubation projects and make selective adjustments to its teams. Sources suggest that the second project mentioned was previously canceled earlier this year.

Respawn is recognized for its work on the Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi franchises. The company confirmed that it will continue its efforts on the next installment of the Jedi series and plans to introduce new seasons and updates for Apex Legends.

Earlier this year, Electronic Arts lowered its revenue projections for the fiscal year following disappointing sales of its latest soccer game, EA Sports FC 25. Additionally, the company downsized its BioWare subsidiary after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which reportedly fell short of sales expectations by 50 percent.
