Kojima Productions has officially announced that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26, 2025, accompanied by a new trailer that highlights gameplay, introduces a new character, and showcases new adversaries. The action-adventure game will be available exclusively for PS5, with pre-orders starting later this month on the PlayStation Store.
Release Date for Death Stranding 2 Unveiled
The 10-minute announcement trailer was unveiled during a special event featuring Hideo Kojima, the head of Kojima Productions, at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. Known for its enigmatic style, the trailer displays striking visuals alongside combat and exploration elements, featuring both new and familiar faces such as Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, George Miller, Elle Fanning, and Troy Baker.
Joining this star-studded cast is Italian actor Luca Marinelli, who plays a character named Neil, highlighted prominently in the trailer. During the extensive cinematics, Marinelli’s character bears a resemblance to Solid Snake from Kojima’s previous Metal Gear Solid series.
The trailer also introduces viewers to a new creature known as Magellan Man, a colossal winged humanoid constructed from tar, reminiscent of the BTs from the first installment, yet distinctively merged with a ship as its head.
Pre-orders for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will commence on March 17. Gamers can choose from several editions, including Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s editions, the latter of which includes a Magellan Man statue. Players opting for the Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Editions will receive early access starting June 24, while the general public will be able to access the game on its official launch date, June 26.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach serves as a direct follow-up to the 2019 title, where players worked to reconnect isolated human colonies in a post-apocalyptic United States. The sequel returns players to the role of Sam Porter Bridges (voiced by Reedus), as he embarks on a journey with his allies to prevent the extinction of humanity. The announcement of Death Stranding 2 was made during The Game Awards 2022.
