On Wednesday, OpenAI unveiled two new utility features for users of ChatGPT, enhancing the platform’s functionality for MacOS. The introduction of Record Mode enables the artificial intelligence application to capture meetings, brainstorming sessions, and voice notes, providing transcription and summarization of key discussion points. This feature is currently exclusive to Team subscribers of ChatGPT. Alongside this, the company has launched Connectors, a tool designed to link the chatbot with users’ internal cloud-based data sources, including Gmail, Outlook, and Google Drive.
ChatGPT Can Now Record Your Meetings
The official OpenAI account announced the new features through a series of updates on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. In addition to these posts, the company hosted a live demonstration on YouTube to showcase the business-oriented capabilities of the new features. While both utilities are available to paid subscribers, it is important to note that Record Mode is specifically intended for Team users. Moreover, the feature is not currently accessible to users in the European Economic Area (EEA), China, or the UK.
Record Mode is designed for the macOS desktop version of ChatGPT. Team users can activate it by tapping the Record button located at the bottom of their chat interface. After granting permission for microphone access, the chatbot will start capturing audio from meetings or voice notes. At the conclusion of the session, users receive an editable summary alongside the audio recording for reference.
According to OpenAI, users will have the ability to search through their previous meetings and easily reference them during discussions. The transcripts generated from these meetings will be stored as a canvas in the chat history, allowing for the potential to rewrite the material into emails, project outlines, or coding frameworks. Importantly, the recording capability can accommodate sessions lasting up to 120 minutes.
In addition to Record Mode, OpenAI has also introduced Connectors, which empower ChatGPT to interface with third-party internal data sources for real-time information retrieval. This feature supports connections with platforms such as Outlook, Teams, Google Drive, Gmail, and Linear. For Team, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers, the integration extends to SharePoint, Dropbox, and Box, but it is limited to use during Deep Research sessions.
Furthermore, OpenAI is offering workspace administrators the option to create custom Deep Research Connectors, utilizing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), currently in its beta phase.
