The emergence of advanced artificial intelligence chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude has sparked ongoing comparisons among users and tech enthusiasts. At first glance, the differences between these AI assistants may appear minimal, yet a deeper dive reveals that each tool excels in certain areas while facing challenges in others. For users looking for reliable assistance in composing emails or generating images, understanding these nuances is crucial.
This article compares ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude based on key everyday applications to help you determine which chatbot aligns best with your specific needs.
Email Composition: ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude
Crafting an effective email is a skill that blends professionalism with a personal touch. The ideal email communicates essential information clearly and concisely while maintaining a friendly, approachable tone. Navigating this balance can be challenging, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right tool for the task.
We evaluated ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude using a prompt requiring a delicate mix of professionalism and warmth. If you’re interested, you can replicate this exercise with the following prompt.
Prompt: Write an email to my boss explaining that I need a leave for 10 days (from September 1-10) because I’m getting married. Keep it professional yet warm.
ChatGPT: The response generated by ChatGPT was functional and straightforward, but it lacked a warm tone. Although it adhered to the prompt, it missed key details such as suggesting a handover plan and outlining availability.
Gemini: Google’s AI performed admirably, successfully blending the appropriate tone with all necessary information in a concise format. The email was well-structured and generally acceptable.
Email composed by Claude
Claude: Claude’s response surpassed Gemini’s in creativity by considering factors that weren’t on my radar, such as informing colleagues about ongoing projects and establishing an out-of-office notification. While it exhibited a more formal tone, its well-structured content provided a definite advantage.
Winner: Claude. (Gemini’s approach could be more effective with a less formal manager.)
Summarisation: ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude
Amidst a busy schedule, sifting through extensive documents for key insights can be challenging. An AI assistant capable of distilling information into concise summaries is invaluable. We evaluated the three chatbots on this fundamental task.
Prompt: Summarise this article. (We provided a Word document featuring one of our feature stories for this test.)
ChatGPT: The OpenAI chatbot effectively summarised the 1,000-word article into three to four coherent paragraphs that captured major themes and allowed for easy comprehension.
Gemini: It managed to condense the article into a single paragraph, covering main points but presenting them in a congested manner, lacking readability and overlooking some important details.
Claude: While Claude delivered an organized presentation, it erred on the side of being too verbose and included unnecessary subheadings, making it less effective as a summary.
Winner: ChatGPT.
Image Generation: ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude
For tasks such as presentations or school projects, the ability to generate compelling visuals is essential. This skill can significantly differentiate leading chatbots from the rest. We tested their image generation capabilities with the following prompt.
Prompt: A scenic red house by a calm river, surrounded by tall green trees. The house features a sloped roof and large windows, set within a well-maintained front yard. The yard includes a colorful flower nursery with blooming flowers arranged in neat rows. A bicycle is casually resting on the driveway in front of the house, and the scene conveys a peaceful, countryside charm with clear blue skies and gentle sunlight filtering through the trees.
Claude: Unfortunately, Claude lacks image generation capabilities, which is surprising for a 2025 chatbot considering that even many open-source models can produce images.
Comparison of image generation by Gemini and ChatGPT
ChatGPT: The prompt included multiple elements, and we were impressed that ChatGPT succeeded in addressing each one while capturing the overall essence of the requested scene.
Gemini: Although Google’s chatbot managed to incorporate most of the prompt’s details, it fell short of a few. Nonetheless, it produced a more realistic bicycle, but this did not secure it the top spot.
Winner: ChatGPT. We welcome differing opinions on this assessment.
Conclusion: ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude
Due to time constraints, we could not evaluate the chatbots on other metrics, such as coding proficiency, web searching abilities, conversational skills, and productivity features. However, from the benchmarks we tested, ChatGPT emerged as the dominant tool, particularly in summarisation and image generation. Conversely, Claude showed superior performance in email composition.
