Mophie has unveiled a new wireless charging solution specifically designed for Apple’s AirPods Max, known as the Max Headphones Charging Stand. Since the AirPods Max lacks integrated wireless charging capabilities, this new stand utilizes a small dongle that remains permanently attached to the headphones’ USB-C port. When the headphones are placed in the stand, the dongle magnetically aligns and connects to charging pins that provide power while additional magnets in the cradle induce a sleep mode for the headphones.
The Max Headphones Charging Stand is now available for purchase at Mophie’s official online store for $150. This product includes a dongle that is compatible with the USB-C version of the AirPods Max released by Apple last year. Currently, Mophie has no plans to create a Lightning connector version of the dongle, limiting compatibility to the newer AirPods Max models.
Built with a weighted base crafted from anodized aluminum, the charging stand’s cradle utilizes a soft-touch silicone to ensure that the AirPods Max earcups remain protected from scratches.
The charging stand offers a practical way to maintain the AirPods Max’s charge when they are not in use, particularly since they only enter battery-saving mode when stored in their case. However, it does take up extra space on a desktop. To add to its value, Mophie has integrated an additional Qi-compatible charging pad onto the base, allowing users to recharge AirPods earbuds or a smartphone; however, this feature does not appear to support Qi2.2, so users should not expect rapid charging speeds or the convenience of magnets.
