Character AI, an artificial intelligence platform based in California, is reportedly experimenting with a new feature focused on gaming. Recent disclosures indicate that the company has introduced two word-based games for its paying customers. Users will have the option to design AI characters centered around the games and engage in various narrative-driven experiences. These offerings mark the first instance of games being incorporated directly into the platform by the company itself, with players able to compete against any character of their choice. Character AI aims to enhance user engagement through these new additions.
Character AI is Reportedly Adding Games to the Platform
According to a TechCrunch report, the platform is currently gauging user interest in these first-party games. The two titles available, known as Speakeasy and War of Words, can be accessed by subscribers of c.ai+ and a selected group of free users. However, staff from Gadgets 360 have not yet been able to confirm the availability of this new feature.
In contrast to existing games that allow users to interact with specific characters in role-playing scenarios, these new games function differently. Players can engage with any character on the platform instead of being limited to designated chat environments.
A new controller icon has been integrated into the chatbot interface’s sidebar, enabling users to launch either game easily. The games are accessible on both the desktop version and the mobile app of the platform.
The aim of Speakeasy is to prompt the character to say a designated word without using five associated terms. For example, players may need to make Einstein say “bedroom,” while avoiding the words “bed, room, sleep, dream, and night.” Each game session randomly generates a target word and its related words.
Meanwhile, War of Words introduces players to a competitive setting where they face off against the AI in five rounds. A referee adjudicates the outcome after the rounds conclude. Different strategies will be necessary as users play against various characters, potentially offering a novel challenge with each session.
A spokesperson for Character AI noted to TechCrunch, “Our goal as an AI entertainment company is to find ways to make the Character AI experience even more fun and entertaining. We’re currently testing a feature that allows gameplay with your favourite Characters, all while keeping the immersive experience users love.”
