On Wednesday, Canva unveiled an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-video feature called Create a Video Clip. This addition to the Canva AI suite enables users to generate video content using Google’s advanced Veo 3 AI model, ensuring high-quality cinematic rendering and native audio capabilities. The feature is currently accessible to Canva’s paid subscribers, nonprofit users, and those subscribed to the Leonardo.ai platform owned by Canva.

Canva Introduces Video Generation Capabilities

In a blog announcement, the Australia-based visual communications platform shared details regarding its new video generation tool. Create a Video Clip is available for Canva Pro, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers, as well as nonprofit users. The Canva Pro subscription is priced at Rs. 500 monthly or Rs. 4,000 annually.

To utilize this feature, users must navigate to the Canva AI section from the sidebar on the homepage and select “Create a Video Clip.” The system can produce eight-second-long videos, with an initial restriction of five video generations per month, although Canva has indicated plans to increase this limit.

Members of the Gadgets 360 team had the opportunity to test the functionality, finding that the feature effectively followed text prompts to create a realistic video with audio in under two minutes. After a video is generated, it can be refined in Canva’s Video Editor, allowing the use of various editing tools. The videos are produced in a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, with the option to adjust the resolution, although the aspect ratio remains fixed. Additionally, videos can be integrated into different design formats.

The company assured users that the feature is supported by its safety tool, Canva Shield, which moderates both prompts and outputs to prevent the creation of harmful or unsafe content.

In a separate announcement on the same day, Canva expressed its plans to acquire MagicBrief, an AI-driven creative intelligence platform. The acquisition is still pending completion, and the financial details have not been disclosed.
