On Wednesday, Canva introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-video tool called Create a Video Clip, designed to enhance its platform. This feature is part of Canva’s AI suite and utilizes Google’s Veo 3 AI model to generate videos of cinematic quality, complete with native audio capabilities. Currently, this functionality is available to Canva’s paid subscribers, nonprofit users, and customers of the Canva-owned Leonardo.ai service.

Canva Will Now Let Users Generate Video Clips

In a recent blog post, the Sydney-based visual communications platform detailed the launch of this new video generation capability. Create a Video Clip is accessible to subscribers of Canva’s Pro, Teams, and Enterprise tiers, as well as nonprofit users. The Canva Pro subscription is priced at Rs. 500 per month or Rs. 4,000 annually.

To access the feature, users should navigate to the Canva AI page located at the bottom of the sidebar on the homepage and select “Create a Video Clip.” The Veo 3-enabled tool can produce eight-second videos, with an initial usage limit of five video creations each month. Canva has indicated that it plans to expand this limit in the future.

Testing by Gadgets 360 demonstrated that the new feature effectively follows text prompts, generating realistic videos with combined audio in less than two minutes. After a video is created, it can be edited further within Canva’s Video Editor, which offers various tools for customization. The output resolution is set at 1,920 x 1,080, although users can alter the video’s resolution, the aspect ratio remains fixed. Additionally, these videos can be integrated into other design formats.

The company noted the presence of a safety measure known as Canva Shield, which monitors both input prompts and generated content to prevent the creation of harmful or unsafe material.

In another development, Canva has revealed plans to acquire MagicBrief, an AI-powered creative intelligence platform. The acquisition is still in the works, and financial details have not yet been disclosed.
