Activision has officially announced the upcoming installment of its iconic shooter series as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Following a series of leaks and promotional hints, the game was unveiled last week with the announcement, “A dark new chapter of the Black Ops franchise begins,” shared via the official Call of Duty account on X on May 23. A short video accompanying this post highlighted the title’s reveal. Moreover, Activision has indicated that a full presentation for Black Ops 6 will take place during a Direct event immediately after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.
Last week, Activision initiated its marketing campaign for the next title, including the launch of a teaser website under the slogan “The Truth Lies.” This upcoming installment is a continuation of the Black Ops saga, following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020.
Both Activision and Microsoft have also confirmed that the Direct event during the Xbox Games Showcase will focus exclusively on Black Ops 6. An initial announcement of the showcase included a blurred image that teased the new Call of Duty title, with leaks suggesting that the Direct presentation would highlight the upcoming game.
The complete reveal for Black Ops 6 is scheduled for shortly after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, at 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST). While further details have yet to be released, it is anticipated that the Direct presentation will showcase the game’s first trailer and potentially announce its release date.
Although Activision has kept specific details under wraps, CharlieIntel, an account on X dedicated to Call of Duty news, claims to have discovered hints within the teasers that suggest the game may be set during the Gulf War. Additionally, the leaker shared an image on X referencing a Reddit user named u/Oufp4, indicating that GameStop has pre-order listings for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This listing indicates that the title will also be available on PS4, hinting at compatibility with previous-generation consoles.
