Following recent comments made by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford regarding the potential pricing of Borderlands 4, 2K has clarified that the game will not be priced at $80. Instead, the highly anticipated looter shooter will be available for $70, aligning with the updated standard for AAA titles on current-generation consoles. Gamers can now pre-order Borderlands 4 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
Details on Pricing and Editions
On Monday, 2K provided essential information regarding the pricing and pre-order options for Borderlands 4, outlining all available editions. The publisher additionally revealed that the game will feature post-launch content, including new story missions and vault hunters, along with new map regions and other additions.
Borderlands 4 will be released in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe, priced at $69.99, $99.99, and $129.99, respectively. In India, the editions are priced at Rs. 3,999, Rs. 5,699, and Rs. 7,499 on PC (available via Steam and the Epic Games Store). Console prices for the game are set at Rs. 4,999, Rs. 7,499, and Rs. 9,799 for each respective edition.
The Standard Edition offers the base game, while the Deluxe Edition includes the Bounty Pack Bundle, which comprises four post-launch DLC packs, unique Vault Cards containing challenges and rewards, new weapons and gear, four new vehicles, cosmetics for vault hunters, and the Firehawk’s Fury weapon skin. Each DLC pack will present distinct areas, missions, and unique bosses, according to 2K.
The Super Deluxe Edition incorporates all features from the Deluxe Edition along with the Vault Hunter Pack. This pack adds two new Story Packs, each introducing a new vault hunter, storyline, and side missions, alongside two new map regions, additional gear and weapons, expanded vault hunter cosmetics, and new ECHO-4 cosmetics. This edition also includes the Ornate Order Pack, featuring four extra vault hunter skins, heads, and bodies.
Pitchford’s Controversial Comments on Pricing
A) Not my call. B) If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen. My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.

He later apologized for his comments on X, stating that he did not intend to make anyone feel taken for granted.
During a Borderlands 4 panel in May, Pitchford further addressed his views on the subject of game pricing. When asked about the anticipated cost, he admitted he did not have specific information, remarking on the competitive nature of the current market and the sensitivities surrounding pricing decisions. He noted that while some people are against price increases, there are those who recognize the rising budgets required to develop games.
Pitchford confirmed that the budget for Borderlands 4 has exceeded double that of Borderlands 3.
In light of Monday’s announcement about pre-orders and pricing, Pitchford incorrectly declared that there would be no price increase for Borderlands 4, despite the previous Borderlands 3 being priced at $60. He stated, “The big news: No price increase for Borderlands 4! Standard Edition launches not at $80, but at $69.99! They’re showing you, so please show them.”
The conversation surrounding game pricing has intensified in recent years as AAA releases on platforms such as PS5 and Xbox Series S/X moved beyond the traditional $60 price tag to $70. Additionally, Nintendo recently stirred discussion by announcing that its upcoming Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2 would come with an $80 price tag.
Moreover, Microsoft disclosed plans to increase the prices of Xbox consoles while also raising the prices of certain first-party games from $70 to $80 this holiday season. At the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, it was announced that The Outer Worlds 2, an upcoming triple-A RPG, would also have an $80 price point.
Borderlands 4 is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on September 12, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version anticipated later this year.
