Ubisoft has confirmed its plans to remake several classic titles in the Assassin’s Creed series, with whispers suggesting that a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is among them. First launched in 2013, Black Flag has garnered a strong fanbase and is celebrated as one of the standout entries in the franchise. Recently, a voice actor from the original game raised expectations for a potential remake.
Teasers of a Black Flag Remake
Matt Ryan, who lent his voice to the game’s main character, Edward Kenway, dropped hints about a possible remake during a fan interaction at a convention. In a video shared on social media by user @SuperDropKick17, Ryan suggested that the fan may need to beat Black Flag again, while also indicating that he was unable to disclose further details.

During the exchange, Ryan inquired if the fan had completed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. After the fan confirmed he had, Ryan responded, “Well, you might have to beat it again.” To the fan’s remark about replaying all the Assassin’s Creed titles, Ryan specifically emphasized Black Flag, saying, “There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything.”
This interaction has sparked speculation that Ubisoft is indeed developing a remake of Black Flag. Insider Gaming reported last year that the project was “well into development” with a potential release date set for late 2025.
Last July, Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, acknowledged that the company was engaged in multiple remakes of older Assassin’s Creed games but did not disclose which titles were in the pipeline.
Earlier this year, Ubisoft released the latest installment in the franchise, titled Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This new action-adventure game is set in feudal Japan and introduces dual protagonists.
Following the launch of Shadows, Ubisoft announced it would delay several of its major productions to ensure they receive the necessary development time to succeed. Although specific titles were not mentioned, it hinted that some of the company’s flagship franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, might experience delays.
In addition to remakes, Ubisoft is also working on several new titles in the Assassin’s Creed universe. Among them is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, which is set during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire. Furthermore, the company is creating Assassin’s Creed Jade, a mobile-only adventure, as well as a standalone multiplayer entry in the franchise.
