Beeper has made its return, nearly a year after Automattic, its parent company, integrated the messaging platform with rival Texts.com. The revamped app enables users to manage their conversations across various services, including WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Google Chat. Users can now choose on-device connections for these services, enhancing privacy through support for end-to-end encryption (E2EE). The app’s basic features remain available at no charge, while a new Beeper Plus subscription introduces additional features and customization options.

Beeper Plans to Phase Out Beeper Cloud Accounts

The platform has unveiled plans to implement on-device accounts within the Beeper app across multiple platforms. This update allows users to access their preferred chat services directly on their devices without storing their data on Beeper Cloud servers. The company has indicated that it aims to eventually discontinue support for cloud-based messaging.

As outlined by the company, users will need to configure their on-device accounts each time they log into the app on a new device. This approach affords users the benefits of E2EE on compatible platforms, in contrast to the existing Beeper Cloud setup.

On-device accounts can currently be set up for services such as WhatsApp (including WhatsApp Business), Instagram, Telegram, Google Chat, Messenger, Signal, LinkedIn, and X (formerly known as Twitter). However, support for on-device accounts for Discord and Slack is still in development.

The app’s essential functions will remain free, but users now have the option to subscribe to Beeper Plus, which includes a range of premium features. Highlights of the subscription include support for up to three accounts from a single network (with a total of up to 10 accounts), message scheduling, reminders, custom app icons, transcription of voice messages, and an Incognito mode for previewing chats without notifying the sender.

For power users, a “Beeper Plus Plus” plan is available, offering support for what the company describes as “unlimited” accounts. The Beeper Plus subscription is priced at $9.99 per month (approximately Rs. 860), while the Beeper Plus Plus subscription costs $49.99 monthly (approximately Rs. 4,300). Existing Beeper users will enjoy complimentary access for up to 12 accounts, and those who backed the platform early will receive permanent access to Beeper Plus features at no charge.
