At Sony’s State of Play event in May, the highly anticipated sequel to Astro’s Playroom, titled Astro Bot, was officially announced. Now, new gameplay footage has emerged, showcasing over eight minutes of gameplay from the upcoming PlayStation exclusive. The leaked footage features various levels, enemy encounters, and traversal mechanics, mirroring the demo that was showcased at Summer Game Fest in June. Astro Bot is scheduled for release on September 6 exclusively for the PS5.
Gameplay Overview
As reported by VGC, the off-screen gameplay footage was captured by A9VG during the ongoing ChinaJoy digital entertainment expo in Shanghai.
The recorded footage reveals various platforming mechanics and showcases Astro’s abilities within the game. Notably, it features an intense battle against a giant octopus boss, drawing comparisons to iconic boss encounters from Super Mario Odyssey. Players can also see Astro navigating different levels across a galaxy using an aircraft.
Astro Bot serves as a sequel to Astro’s Playroom, which is a free platformer included with every PS5 and demonstrates the haptic feedback and adaptive trigger capabilities of the DualSense controller.
The new installment, developed by Team Asobi, expands the original’s concept to a more extensive space adventure platformer. Astro Bot will allow players to explore six galaxies and over 80 levels while seeking out Astro’s crew.
Enhanced environments and new abilities for Astro will feature prominently, enabling him to tackle a variety of enemies and formidable bosses. The game will also incorporate DualSense controller features, further enhancing the gameplay experience.
Set to launch on September 6, Astro Bot will be a PS5-exclusive title, with pre-orders currently open. Unlike its predecessor, this sequel will not be free-to-play, with the Standard Edition priced at Rs. 3,999.
