Ubisoft has announced that its popular game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will be made available on additional platforms, fueling speculation about a potential version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This revelation follows a recent listing on a ratings site that hinted at the possibility of the game coming to Bethesda’s new console. Since its release in March on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has garnered a massive player base, reaching five million users.

Potential Release on Nintendo Switch 2

During the company’s first-quarter earnings call for FY 2025-26, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot detailed plans for the game’s future, indicating that “new versions” of Assassin’s Creed Shadows are under development. He emphasized, “The launch has been very successful, and we have exciting plans in store. An expansion will be available before the end of the quarter, alongside several new platform versions.”

Guillemot also noted the game’s strong performance, particularly its response to a recent price reduction. He expressed optimism about the game’s prospects, stating, “We have clear visibility on the potential for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and its reception has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Though Guillemot did not mention the Switch 2 specifically, his comments strongly imply that the game is on track to join Nintendo’s roster. Currently, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is accessible on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, suggesting the Switch 2 could be the next logical platform for its release.

Additionally, Ubisoft is preparing to support the Switch 2 with the launch of Star Wars Outlaws, set to be released on the hybrid console next month. Originally introduced on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X last year, this title is anticipated to make its Switch 2 debut on September 4.

Milestone of 5 Million Players

In the recent financial report, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has successfully attracted over five million unique players. While specific unit sales figures were not disclosed, Guillemot stated that the game has “met expectations.”

Furthermore, Ubisoft confirmed that the Claws of Awaji expansion will be available in the second quarter of FY 2025-26, expected between July and September 2025. This expansion is poised to add over ten hours of new content, along with new weapons, skills, and abilities for players to explore.

Earlier this year, the game was listed on the PEGI ratings website, which included Switch 2 as a supported platform, igniting buzz about a possible port. Since its launch in June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has welcomed numerous AAA titles, further enriching its game library.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows debuted on March 20 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, achieving the title of the series’ second-largest launch, following AC Valhalla. The game attracted over two million players within the first week of its release. A review from Gadgets 360, which rated the game 8/10, lauded its emphasis on stealth and storytelling, while critiquing its lack of innovative elements within the established Assassin’s Creed framework.
