Apple is reportedly gearing up to enhance its Shortcuts app with new features powered by its proprietary AI technology, Apple Intelligence. According to a well-informed journalist, the revamped app will be showcased at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, which is set to begin on June 9 at Apple Park in California. However, it appears that the official launch of these enhancements may not happen until 2026.
Revamping the Shortcuts App
In the latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg detailed Apple’s initiative to overhaul the Shortcuts app. The impending changes are part of a broader strategy to enhance AI integration across Apple’s application ecosystem and operating systems.
Gurman highlighted that the new version of the Shortcuts app will allow users to create personalized interactions utilizing Apple Intelligence models. This means users could potentially execute specific actions or initiate music playlists through AI-driven shortcuts on devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
While WWDC 2025 may serve as the platform for unveiling the updated Shortcuts app, it is possible that not all features will be released immediately. Gurman indicated that the originally anticipated timeline for these updates may face delays, shifting their availability to 2026.
In a broader context, Apple is expected to make its foundation models—boasting approximately three billion parameters—accessible to third-party developers during this year’s developer conference. This move aims to enable developers to harness on-device AI technologies, currently utilized for tasks like text summarization. It is anticipated that this initiative will pave the way for numerous additional features powered by Apple Intelligence.
One notable addition may include a Siri that leverages large language models (LLMs) to create a more conversational user experience, aligning it with ChatGPT’s Voice Mode. Additionally, a new AI health assistant named Mulberry is reportedly in development, alongside a redesigned Health app, with the goal of launching in a spring update for iOS 26. Furthermore, Apple is believed to be working on a chatbot designed to compete with ChatGPT, which may have the capability to access and pull data from the web.
