Following a two-year period as an exclusive for the iPhone, Apple’s Journal app is set to expand its availability to Mac and iPad users. The tech giant announced during Monday’s WWDC that the upcoming updates for macOS 26 and iPadOS 26 will include support for the Journal app, designed to assist users in documenting their daily activities and experiences through photos, videos, and voice recordings.

In the macOS 26 press release, Apple stated, “Journal comes to Mac, making it easy to capture and write about everyday moments and special events when inspiration strikes.” The app on Mac will facilitate the creation of extensive, thoughtful entries while also allowing users to visualize their experiences on a map. Furthermore, users can maintain multiple journals for different facets of their lives, all of which will sync seamlessly across their Apple devices.

On the iPad, Apple highlights that Journal users will have the ability to add drawings and handwritten notes using their finger or Apple Pencil, enriching their journaling experience. The larger screen on the iPad is likely to attract those who enjoy integrating sketches and illustrations into their personal notes, making the digital format feel more akin to traditional paper journaling.

However, iPad and Mac users will need to exercise a bit of patience before they can utilize the Journal app. While developer betas are currently available, the public betas for iPadOS 26 and macOS 26 will be released next month, with a complete rollout anticipated in the fall.
