Apple is set to unveil new firmware versions for its devices, including iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 in June. Although speculation has suggested a variety of enhancements, a recent report indicates that the tech giant may roll out a range of new productivity-focused features for both the iPad and iPhone. Among these updates, the iPad is expected to receive a menu bar akin to that of macOS, while some iPhone models might finally gain external display support, allowing users to view content on larger screens.

Updates to iPadOS 19 and iOS 19

According to unnamed sources, tipster Majin Bu reports that iPadOS 19 will feature a redesigned interface that includes a menu bar positioned at the top of the screen. This modification is intended to create a more PC-like experience for users who connect their iPad to a Magic Keyboard.

Moreover, enhancements to the multitasking feature known as Stage Manager are also anticipated with the introduction of Stage Manager 2.0. Users may find that the improved version automatically activates when their iPad is linked to the Magic Keyboard, potentially enhancing productivity through better app and window management.

On the other hand, iOS 19, the forthcoming update for the iPhone operating system, is rumored to include several new features as well. While iPhones will not gain access to Stage Manager, there are indications that external display support will be added, mimicking functionality found in iPadOS.

However, it is important to note that this external display feature is expected to be exclusive to iPhone models equipped with a USB Type-C port, meaning it will be available only on the iPhone 15 series and subsequent models. Unfortunately, earlier versions, including the iPhone 14 and those with Apple’s lightning port, may miss out on this upgrade.

Although the functionality will not provide a complete desktop experience, the report highlights that it could allow iPhone users to expand their screen space, which would be beneficial for tasks such as editing, creating presentations, or consuming content on a larger display. Some limitations regarding resolution and the number of simultaneously displayed apps may apply, according to the sources.

These updates align with Apple’s broader objective of creating a more integrated and seamless ecosystem across its device lineup, as noted in the report.
