Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 update is set to introduce an innovative feature that utilizes artificial intelligence to enhance battery life, according to a report by Bloomberg. This battery management tool will aim to optimize the iPhone’s power usage tailored to individual user habits.
The feature is designed to leverage “battery data it has collected from users’ devices to understand trends and make predictions for when it should lower the power draw of certain applications or features,” according to the report.
In comparison, Google introduced its machine learning-based Adaptive Battery for Android devices back in 2018, which analyzes user behavior to determine which apps should be restricted from running in the background, while prioritizing others. The Android feature allows users to manage how applications operate in the background to fetch data and notifications.
Additionally, iOS 19 is expected to include a new lock screen feature that indicates the estimated time required for a full battery charge.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s implementation of AI-driven battery management is particularly significant for the forthcoming iPhone 17, rumored to be the company’s slimmest model yet. This reduced form factor likely means a smaller battery, heightening the importance of efficient power usage. Importantly, the AI battery tool is anticipated to be accessible to all iPhones running iOS 19, not just the new iPhone 17.
In addition to the battery management update, iOS 19 is rumored to feature a comprehensive redesign. The release timeline suggests that Apple will unveil the update to developers during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a public rollout expected in September.
